New Album Enjoy

Matthew Haley

Record Details

Released:
2018

ENJOY is the first, and long overdue, public release of clandestine artist Matthew Haley. Enjoy adds an array of electronic and eclectic sounds to Matthew’s acoustic songwriting style of dreamlike melodies, haunting vocals, and eloquent lyrics.

WEEP WARNING – an unusually high number of listeners have reporting weeping.  That should only occur toward the end of the album.

Other reactions to the album include nostalgia, feelings of whimsy, and sudden fits of introspection.

Lyrics

It’s a long way up
Some say infinite
But you just wonder if
There may be less to it

But when you step outside
You get so starry-eyed
Somewhat mesmerized
Your mind blown open wide

Don’t look up
You might fall for it
The stars they may amaze you
But darling they can’t save you

Don’t look up
You might fall for it
And darling if we let you
There’s nothing there to catch you

I’d like to hold you now
I wouldn’t want to hold you down
But when I let you go
Well I hope you stay around

And I won’t look down on you
The way stars always do
But when you look up to them
I’ll still look up to you
Don’t look up
You might fall for it
The stars they may amaze you
But darling they can’t save you

Don’t look up
You might fall for it
And darling if we let you
There’s nothing there to catch you

There’s nothing for you here
There’s something you don’t feel
You say it’s lost out there
But I think it’s everywhere

‘Cause this world if full of bliss
That your naked eye can miss
And beyond that starry mess
Well I just see emptiness

Don’t look up
You might fall for it
The stars they may amaze you
But darling they can’t save you

Don’t look up
You might fall for it
And darling if we let you
There’s nothing there to catch you

With your plans to make it better

Oh, best of luck

And we all fall in love
With the hands that harm us

Oh how we love to fall

Lyrics

I found you hanging by the
End of your rope
And I came down
Just in time

Yes, you were worn
Yeah you were tattered, you were torn
And I thought that I
Would feed you a line

Don’t fret your head
I’ll get my needle and some thread
And I’ll have you
Wrapped up nice and tight

Yes, it’s true
That by the time I’m through with you
You’ll find yourself
Fit to be tied

I won’t have you coming undone
Not while I’m alive
I will hold on strong
Until my days are gone
I’ll keep stringing you along

Yes, you were unravelling
And falling apart at the seams

It wasn’t long before I had you
Wrapped around my finger

And it may seem
Like you are pulling your own strings
But no, dear
That’s just me

If you believe
That any time you can break free
Well, dear, you haven’t seen
The things that I can weave

I won’t have you coming undone
Not while I’m alive
I will hold on strong
Until my days are gone
I’ll keep stringing you along

Lyrics

Waltz your way through the ballroom
That everyone goes to to feel like a king
Or queen, as the case may be
But it certainly seems you’re on top of the world
So as Simon says to have a drink
You graciously leave him your coat at the door
And you waltz your way through the ballroom
Making your way on the slickest of floors

While you’re dancing you might as well spin around
Everyone wants you to jest like the rest of them
Once you are dizzy you might as well just fall down
Nobody needs you to stand anymore
So you might as well fall to the floor

Following the gentleman’s lead
The mistress is helplessly swept off her feet
But in desperate need to retreat
The music deceases they head to their seats
While still one man is left standing
Now understanding the rules to the game
And he walks his way through the ballroom
Until the music resumes once again

While you’re dancing you might as well spin around
Everyone wants you to jest like the rest of them
Once you are dizzy you might as well just fall down
Nobody needs you to stand anymore
So you might as well fall to the floor

Waltz your way through the ballroom
Over to the one who was looking at you
With a smirk, a smile, a sinister grin
Stepping outside le the tango begin

While you’re dancing you might as well spin around
Everyone wants you to jest like the rest of them
Once you are dizzy you might as well just fall down
Nobody needs you to stand anymore
So you might as well fall to the floor

Lyrics

It started off as such a simple dream
All you asked was for your name to ring around the world
Oh, what a world that it would be

We could lift you way up high
Maybe if we tried with all our might
Oh, the heights that you would reach

But could you light the sky
And guide us through the night
‘Til we get home
Because I hear you’d like to be a star

A little boat, a lot of sea
A fading hope that maybe we don’t sink
Too far below ourselves

An angry storm, a violent breeze
A distant shore that lay beyond our reach
Oh, if only – if only

So could you light the sky
And guide us through the night
‘Til we get home
Because I hear you’d like to be a star

Don’t get me wrong
I’d love to see you
Put in your place
Where all of us need you
But is the weight of the world
That pulls on us all
Just holding you down?

Would you light the sky
And guide us through the night
‘Til we get home
Because I hear you’d like to be a star

Lyrics

Let me start by saying this
I’m usually more composed
But as of late, it’s been hard to make
Sense of all my lows

I’m not one to whine and pout
Or cry out childish remarks
But I believe that I may need
Some time to fall apart

Could someone turn out that street light
Tuck me in and say sleep tight
Just for once on a bleak night
Could someone watch over me?

Until this evening is over
Take this weight off my shoulders
And cover me when it’s colder
Someone watch over me

You don’t need to hold my hand
And you don’t need to sing me a song
But if you do I promise you
That I could carry on

Could someone turn out that street light
Tuck me in and say sleep tight
Just for once on a bleak night
Could someone watch over me?

Until this evening is over
Take this weight off my shoulders
And cover me when it’s colder
Someone watch over me

I don’t mean to put you out
And you don’t need to take me in
But if you could just be kind enough
To watch out for a friend

Could someone turn out that street light?
Tuck me in and say sleep tight
Just for once on a bleak night
Could someone watch over me?

Until this evening is over
Take this weight off my shoulders
And cover me when it’s colder
Someone watch over me

Carried Away

Vocals & Acoustic Guitar: Matthew Haley
Keyboards & Effects: Jeremy Douglass

All the Sounds

vocals, acoustic guitar, synth bass, percussion, synths, organ, theremin, whistle, celesta

Lyrics

To-and-fro
It comes and it goes
It ebbs and it flows
With its highs and its lows

But you will not be moved
No you’re a stone
You stand on your own

We all can relate
There’s times to carry the weight
But then there’s times to get
Carried away

All the ways
That it bends and it sways
It gives and it takes
But it never stays place

And you will not be moved
No you’re a stone
And you stand all alone

Well we really don’t care
When we’re up in the air
And you’re grounded, so grounded
And going nowhere

We all can relate
There’s times to carry the weight
But then there’s times to get
Carried away

Lyrics

Heading out on a sunny day
A soft summer breeze could have swept us away
As light as we were

Around and ’round, and around we’d go
We didn’t care and we sure didn’t know
Where we’d be landing

But we put on our best clothes
And we straightened our halos
And up and off we were
We tried to behave, though
It’s hard as the days go on
As the days go on

Another day has passed away
But there’s no time for mourning ‘cause noon’s on its way
You learn to let go

With heavy hearts and misguided fates
We’d still be floating but we took on weight
Why are we are where we are

We’ve tattered our best clothes
And we’ve fractured our halos
But up and off we go
We’ve tried to behave, though
It’s hard as the days go on
As the days go on

Curtain call, and a final tune
We’ve waited so long, but now it’s come too soon
Don’t let her sing

‘Cause I don’t want to hear that
Final note just yet
No not just yet

We’ve torn up our best clothes
And we’ve shattered our halos
And up and off we go
We’ve tried to behave, though
Its hard as the days go on
As the days go on

We’ve worn out our best clothes
And we’ve thrown out our halos
And up and off we go
We’ve tried to behave, though
It’s hard as the days go on
As the days go on

In joy – enjoy
